In the inaugural 2012 season 13 monte races were conducted in the United States at ten venues, two each at Goshen's Historic Track, Tioga Downs, Indiana Downs (one on turf course) and at the New Meadowlands and one each at The Meadows, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs, Freehold Raceway, Lexington's Red Mile and Vernon Downs. There were two monte events (uncharted) held in Ontario, Canada as well. 41 riders, 45 trainers and 46 horses participated in the 2012 racing program. The 2013 schedule began with two June 29 early non-wagering events at Mohegan Sun Pocono Downs. The racing action included a series developed by the New Meadowlands and the Hambletonian Society that brought more positive attention to the monte program. Thanks to all participants (21 horses entered) and sponsors Allerage Farm, William Weaver, White Birch Farm, Bet On Track, Blue Chip Farm, Burke Stable and Global Graphics for making this series happen. Thanks also to host Meadowlands Racetrack and its management and Lisa Photo for recording the action. Monte America organizer Helene Gregory received the United States Harness Writers Association's Presidents Award at its Dan Patch Awards Banquet on March 3rd. Jenny Melander, a leading monte rider in the U.S. was recently an invitee to participate in Australia's Great Southern Star monte contest in Melbourne, Australia on St. Patrick's Day weekend. Nicole Marsing of Denmark joined Jenny to represent Europe.
The 2013 monte season was supported in the United States by 47 trainers, 41 equine performers and 29 riders. Canadian program participants included 26 trainers, 29 horses and 15 riders that all deserve congratulations and your support for making the season memorable.
The 2014 monte season featured the return of the Hambletonian Monte/RUS series (first leg July 18) and the addition of new racetrack hosts of monte events - Ocean Downs, Freehold Raceway and Rosecroft Raceway on October 18. RUS NY developed a series of monte races at county fairs that began with Goshen Historic Track on July 3.
The 2015 season was an abbriviated one albeit RUS NY conducted a full series of races at the participating NY Fairs and RUS Ontario was successful in promotion of monte pari-mutuel races at several tracks. 2016 is underway with Ontario events scheduled through October 21 at various pari-mutuel raceways and on which pari-mutuel wagering is offered. US monte racing has begun at New York Fairs, qualifying races at multiple tracks, matinee races at Goshen Historic Track and a first exhibition event on July 17 at Ocean Downs for a purse of US$5,000. Trot Monte Racing Records
The US mark for Trot Monte was set in 1998 by Moni Maker ridden by Julie Krone in a time trial, at Lexington's Red Mile, timed in 1:54.1 over the mile distance. The world race record is held in Europe by Torre Crepin in 1:52.63 over one-mile at Solvalla on May 31, 2015. Adrien Lamy rode Torre Crepin that is trained by Bruno Marie. The previous record was held by Prince de Montfort in 1:53.2 over the mile distance at Solvalla (5/8 mile track) on Ellitoppet Day 2010. On Elitloopet day 2016 the Franck Leblanc monte campainger Be Mine de Houelle scored for Marie Bacsich timed in 1.10,2kr (mile rate 1:52.95f) in the Monte Elite at Solvalla. The North American race record of 1:56.4s was established September 26, 2015 by Santo Domingo (Philippe Masschaele up) at Mohawk eclipsing the 1:57.1 record taken August 4, 2012 by Master Pine (Helene Gregory) at the New Meadowlands.
